Galapagos Blanket Pattern

I love playing with unusual shapes and so this blanket based on an octagon with small squares was born. The name comes from the suggestion of Giant Galapagos Tortoise shell in the pattern.

    I give you a lot of tips and pictures along the way to make it look the best it can be.

    I designed it as a baby blanket, but of course you could make it any size by making more of the blocks.

    There are 2 options for the border.  You can stop after a few rounds and have a notched edge or continue on and have straight edges.

    The pattern includes;

    • a written pattern (you choose UK or US terms),
    • joining instructions
    • edging instructions to make the sides straight

    Baby Blanket Size

    76 cm square

    You will need:

    Yarn: 8 ply/DK/light worsted yarn. I used Bendigo Woollen Mills cotton.

    730 metres of the main colour, 125 metres of the contrasting colour

    Hook: 4.5 mm

    How to access the pattern

    This is the digital PDF pattern. Your download link will be on the order confirmation screen, in your order confirmation email and in your account, if you have one.

    Love this blanket

    I started working on this blanket last year and recently pulled it out of the bottom of my WIP basket. I love this pattern. Thanks Shelley- highly recommend this pattern. I’m making mine 6 x 5 blocks
