AI Policy

Human Creativity Comes First

My creative crochet design skills and connection with crocheters around the world are the core of what I do.  I have the support of many creative humans to keep my business going and to keep publishing new crochet fun for you.

This policy has been created so I can be transparent about how I use (and, more importantly, don't use) Artificial Intelligence.

The Creative Work is Always 100% Human

I never outsource any creative aspect of my work to AI.

AI is NEVER Used For

The Creative Vision

I come up with every creative vision and work with humans to develop them into the crochet patterns you enjoy.

The Actual Content

I write all patterns, projects, instructions, books, social media posts, newsletters and blog posts. Anywhere you see text, it is written by me or a person I have engaged to write for me.

Design & Imagery

All visual assets such as my branding, logos, book design, illustrations and pattern layouts are created by my graphic designer. (Shout out to Michelle Lorimer!)

All photography is done by me or photographers I engage. AI is not used to edit, enhance or alter images in any way.

This work is done by the creative humans I engage.

Final “Polish”

I engage human proof-readers and tech editors, and do not run things via AI as a final check.

How I Do Use AI

I use AI to help with the administrative, non-creative parts of running a business. This frees up my time and energy so I can focus on new crochet patterns for you.

Building Outlines

I use an AI tool to give me structural outlines for new projects or systems, e.g. a bulleted list of steps for a new process, spreadsheet for data tracking or the basic sections of a document. (And, yes, the initial structure of this policy was drafted by AI, which I then edited.)

Meeting Note-Taking

I use AI to capture and transcribe online meetings to help with record-keeping and task allocation.

Technical Support

I use AI for non-creative guidance and troubleshooting for the software platforms and tools I use to put Shelley Husband Crochet into the world. If I need changes made beyond my skills, I engage a human to do the work for me.

Environmental Impact and Water Usage

I recognise that even basic AI usage requires computing power, and that has an environmental cost.

While my usage of AI is small, I acknowledge that every prompt contributes to the load.

I am mindful about keeping my use of AI low by restricting my use to basic support tasks and not image generation or complex content creation.

My Personal Commitments

Every framework, outline, or piece of technical advice from an AI tool is checked, modified, and finalised personally by me before implementation. The outcome is always my responsibility.

I am extremely careful about the tools I use. I do not, under any circumstances, upload sensitive, private, or customer data into AI systems.

I am committed to paying human designers, photographers and artists when I need specialised creative help, supporting the wider creative community.

I commit to continue to learn about AI and implement changes to my processes as necessary.

Looking Ahead

AI changes fast, but my commitment to human work doesn't. I'll personally review this policy at least once a year to make sure it keeps up with technology while staying true to my core creative values and my commitment to have minimal environmental impact.
