Oceanic Blanket Pattern

Are you ready to set sail? Yes? Well, let’s go on a voyage through the oceans of the
world in crochet. In this pattern, you will find four different granny square patterns and a border to make your very own Oceanic Crochet Blanket.

You will soon see that each of the four Ocean patterns is a squared off circle. The cool thing is, the squaring off is exactly the same for every pattern, as is the edging of each square in the neutral colour, so those parts will become second nature to you very quickly.

The pattern includes;

  • detailed yarn requirements
  • written patterns in UK & US terminology in the one PDF
  • charts, both right-handed and left-handed
  • joining instructions
  • border pattern
  • charts, both right-handed and left-handed
  • a glossary of all stitches and techniques used

There are no videos or round by round help in this one, but none of the patterns are too advanced and I am always here to help.

Blanket size

Using 10 ply/aran/worsted,  122 cm / 48" square. Each square is 11" before joining.

You will need

10 ply/aran/worsted, 12 skiens of 192 m/210 yds per 100 grams yarn

I used Malabrigo Rios wool.  You will need 8 skeins in different colours for the squares and 4 natural for the edging of squares, joining and the border.

Hook: 5.5 mm

How to access the pattern

This is the digital PDF pattern. Your download link will be on the order confirmation screen, in your order confirmation email and in your account, if you have one.

So far so good.

I've nearly made one of each square pattern. It's easy enough to follow like the rest of Shelley's patterns. They make up lovely and quick. It's going to look beautiful when all joined up. Really glad I chose this pattern.

Oceanic Blanket Pattern

Great pattern and l love the way it has turned out. It will be a birthday gift for my nephew who is from Cairns but now studying in Brisbane. I took a bit of creative licence as l wanted a larger blanket and my nephew asked that there be a Forest Green included - l am calling the blanket the 'Rainforest Blanket' to reflect the colors and my nephew's home city. I used a 10 Ply, 100% wool from Cascade Yarns - Cascade 220, crocheted with a 5.00mm hook. l used nine Colors (9 x 4 squares) - Green Tea, Forest Green, Turtle, Shire, Irelands, Straw, Birch Heather, Pine Grove, Copper Heather and Natural.

Workshop

This is my favourite project at the moment. I did a workshop with Shelley learning how to make this blanket and had such a lovely time. Got a great start and many tips and tricks to make it perfect! Shelley is wonderful at teaching and her patterns are very easy to follow.

Nice blanket.

Lovely pattern. I made each of the four patterns in six blues, the Scheepjes Skies Light. The seventh blue is the joining colour. I am planning to crochet 48 squares in total.
